Geneva 17/03/2022:
Baloch Human Rights Council (BHRC) convened a seminar titled, “The Baloch Lives Matter” at the Geneva Press Club during the ongoing 49th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.
The seminar presided by Dr Lakhu Luhana of World Sindhi Congress (WSC) was attended by representatives from different oppressed nations in Pakistan who shared their insightful views on the subject matter and deliberated on various aspects of the human rights violations facing the Baloch people in Pakistan and Iran. Representatives from an international NGO Global Human Rights Defence (GHRD) also addressed the BHRC seminar.
Prominent among the speakers were Junaid Qureshi of the European Foundation for South Asian Studies, Hassan Hamdam and Jamshaid Amiri from the BHRC, Dr Lakhu Luhana and Dr Hidayat Bhutto of WSC, Nasir Aziz Khan of United Kashmir People’s National Party, Emma Barnhoorn and Eva Bredenbeek of GHRD, and Munawar Laghari of Sindhi Foundation USA.
All speakers agreed that Pakistan is committing heinous crimes including war crimes and crimes against humanity in Balochistan and elsewhere in Pakistan against oppressed nations with impunity and with no fear of being held accountable. They also stressed the need to work closely together and to make concerted efforts to make the plight of Baloch heard at the international fora.
A short documentary produced by BHRC was also played at the seminar. The documentary provided a historical context of the human rights situation in Balochistan including its current appalling state.
Speakers were unanimous that like all lives, the Baloch lives also matter, and the international community must act as swiftly and as ferociously in the case of Balochistan just as it did in the case of Ukraine.
