Baloch and Sindhi human rights and political organizations called for an international investigation into the death of Baloch activist Karima Baloch. In a joint letter to members of European Parliament, members of the British Parliament and the US Senators, Baloch Human Rights Council (BHRC), Baloch National Movement in Diaspora (BNM), World Baloch Organization (WBO), and World Sindhi Congress (WSC) asked the members to use their influence in initiating an international investigation into the mysterious death of Karima Baloch on December 21, 2020, in Canada.
The letter pointed out the fact that Karima Baloch was vocal against the Pakistani state’s inhuman and genocide acts including enforced disappearances and kill and dump policy of Pakistani forces in Balochistan. Recently she was receiving threats from unknown quarters and on many occasions, she feared for her life from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence agency (ISI).
The letter apprised the members of the European Parliament, the British Parliament and US senators about the alarm and concern among the Baloch and Sindhi political exiles caused by Karima’s death in mysterious circumstances as various military officials of Pakistan including a chief of staff have been on record threatening political dissidents living abroad with physical elimination.
The letter also pointed out that dissidents from other parts of Pakistan are also facing harassment and intimidation from people believed to be attached to Pakistani diplomatic missions abroad. The letter specifically mentioned the harassment of Pakistani exiled activists Waqas Goraya, exiled Pakistani Journalist Taha Siddiqui and activist Gulalai Ismail.
The letter regretted the indifference of the international community on the genocide of the Baloch which has ignored repeated calls by the Baloch political parties and human rights organizations for the intervention of the civilized world to stop the gross human rights violations in Balochistan.
Signed by BHRC president Dr. Naseer Dashti, BNM Diaspora organizer, Dr. Naseem Baloch, WBO convenor Javed Mengal and WSC chairperson Dr. Rubina Greenwood, the letter asked for the immediate intervention of the civilized world to punish those involved in such heinous crimes.
