Quetta:
Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, on Saturday, vowed he would take up the issue of Balochistan’s missing persons with “powerful quarters” of the country.
For many familiar with the longstanding issue of the forcibly disappeared persons believe the PM was referring to the Pakistani military authorities as the country’s powerful quarters.
Mr Sharif said this while speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the 330-km Khuzdar-Kuchlak sections of N-25 Chaman-Karachi National Highway.
He also chaired a high-level meeting on the law and order situation in Balochistan. He also said that the leaders from Balochistan were unanimous that development projects are important, but it is the other problems, predominantly the issue of missing persons, that need to be solved first,” the premier said.
“Today, I’m making a promise. I will speak for missing persons along with you,” Sharif vowed. “We will raise the issue with powerful quarters. And we will talk to them based on law, justice and merit.”
He also said that the people of Balochistan were concerned about the newly created and projected narrative, the narrative of dividing Balochistan into the North and South Balochistan. “Please destroy it”. He said.
