Appreciation and encouragement play a vital role in students’ learning, and appreciation is the best tool to boost their zeal. Ian Reece and Stephen Walker in their book ‘Teaching Training and Learning’ pointed out that an average student who is well motivated can achieve greater success than the most intelligent student who is not well motivated because motivation has a direct impact on how an individual learns.
Furthermore, as emphasized by different researchers, appreciation and motivation are the major tools that determine the level of success in learning. Moreover, appreciation can help a student to emerge and face challenges. According to an educational theorist Sugata Mitra, “by using the admiration method, children learning increases”. As he did an experiment in which he asked a volunteer to stand behind a group of children/students who were using the internet to learn about an unfamiliar and challenging task and admired them all the time by using the words of encouragement like you can do it, I am so proud of you, can you show me some more, etc., as a result, Sugata Mitra reported that using simple words of encouragement the children’s learning increased.
Therefore, all the teachers should motivate the students in the learning process because motivated students can do better in their studies and can see learning as a clear gateway to attain their goals.
