The Baloch Human Rights Council (BHRC) has issued an urgent appeal to the United Nations and several prominent international organizations, including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, apprising them of the dire situation in Gwadar town in Southern Balochistan.
In a strongly worded letter, BHRC condemned the international community’s silence on the brutal treatment of participants in a peaceful protest rally organized by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee. The rally, aimed at highlighting people’s concerns over human rights abuses and advocating for basic human rights, was met with severe repression by Pakistani authorities.
The BHRC’s letter to the UN Secretary-General calls for immediate intervention. It urges the UN and other global bodies to demand that Pakistani authorities cease all acts of violence against protesters and ensure the immediate release of all detained individuals.
“The international community’s indifference to the plight of the Baloch people must end. We call upon the United Nations and human rights organizations worldwide to take swift and decisive action to protect the fundamental rights of the people in Balochistan,” the BHRC stated.
The BHRC remains committed to advocating for the rights and freedoms of the Baloch people and will continue to press for international awareness and intervention in the face of ongoing repression.
