Quetta/Turbat:
Students and activists took to the streets in Turbat and Balochistan’s capital city Quetta calling for justice in the case of 10-years-old Murad Ameer, who was sexually assaulted by personnel of Frontier Corps (FC) in Hoshab, Kech.
In the protest organized by Baloch Yakjehti Committee-Kech, more than two hundred protesters marched from Turbat police station to Fida Chowk in Turbat, chanting slogans against the rapist FC personnel and holding banners that read, “Stop institutionalized torture and sexual assault of Baloch children” and “#JusticeForMuradAmeer”.
“About 4 to 5 cases of child rape have occurred in our hometown Hoshab”, revealed Murad Ameer’s mother.
Meanwhile, in Quetta, the Baloch Students Organization (BSO) held a protest demonstration outside the Quetta Press Club demanding urgent legal action against the rapist FC men. The local officials say one of the FC sepoys has been arrested for sexual abuse of the minor.
#JusticeForMuradAmeer has been trending on social media in Pakistan.
Although this tragic incident sparked public outcry, it did not make it to the mainstream media in Pakistan.
This is not the only time the people in district Kech are protesting against the criminal policies and activities of the FC. On August 13, 2020, a 25-years-old student Hayat Baloch was murdered by the FC personnel in front of his helpless parents in Turbat, Kech. The incident shook the entire country.
There is widespread anger and resentment against the Military troops stationed in Balochistan, with the public complaining about being intimidated and humiliated by the security personnel who enjoy impunity. The people have been demanding for a long time about the military to be returned to Barracks.
