London:
Baloch Human Rights Council (BHRC) members have expressed deep condolences following the news of Akbar Barakzai’s passing Monday night.
Akbar Barakzai was a well respected political and literary person who was also one of the founding members of the BHRC, a human rights advocacy organization. Due to Akbar Barakzai’s active role in Baloch politics in the early 1970s, he was forced to leave Balochistan, Pakistan. He lived in exile for over half a century until he breathed his last in London.
His friends remember him as one of the most sincere and dedicated members of the Baloch national struggle. Despite suffering from various health conditions, he always dedicated his time for the better future of the suppressed Baloch people.
BHRC’s executive president Dr Naseer Dashti said, “We are extremely saddened on the loss of the valiant son of Balochistan Waja Akbar Barakzai. He was one of the founders of BHRC, one of the icons of Balochi literature and a life-long supporter and activist of Baloch National Struggle”.
Razzak Baloch, BHRC’s representative in the USA wrote, “Waja Akbar Barakzai’s life long struggle for the Baloch nation will always be remembered”.
Akbar Barakzai was laid to rest in London today.
