ISI officials are making phone calls to PML-N senators to push them to switch their loyalties in the March 12 election for Senate chairman, PML-N leaders told the media on Thursday.
“ISI officers are making telephone calls to senators,” said former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, in a press conference along with Ahsan Iqbal, Marriyum Aurangzeb, and Senator Hafiz Abdul Karim.
Another Senator Karim present in the press conference said two people called and told him not to vote for PDM candidate Yousaf Raza Gillani.
The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an alliance of the political parties opposed to the regime of Imran Khan, has nominated Gillani as its candidate
Senator Karim further added that “we are being pressured to change loyalties”.
Mr Abbasi said the PML-N can reveal the names of ISI officers who made the phone calls to party senators but they won’t do it in the better interest of the state.
“We don’t intend to take names, we don’t intend to insult an army officer, no army officer does it on his own [but]he does what he is instructed to do,” added Abbasi.
