Why do people commit suicide? It is a fundamental question that most of us face at some point in our lives. Some of our loved ones, acquaintances or friends make suicide attempts. Some of them survive while most do not. Every suicide fatality case leaves behind a fundamental question: why did he commit suicide? Was he so fed up and frustrated with life, or was his situation such that he embraced death? Dozens of such people who have all the luxuries of life also commit suicide, which means that the pains and sufferings of life are not as closely related to suicide as is commonly associated. Most people who commit suicide are assumed to have some trouble or some serious problem that led them to a ‘suicide attempt’, although most such speculations are to the contrary.
As students at the University of Turbat, we have conducted research based on our personal interest to explore the reasons behind the increasing depression and the horrific incidents of suicide in the last few months in the Kech district and the factors that lead to suicide. It has become a trend nowadays, be it old or young women or men, this suicidal behaviour is spreading rapidly, especially among the young section of society and its prevention may have become a mystery now. Let it be clear here that the first suicide of district Kech may have been committed by Razak Dedag or by someone else but there is no corroborative information about it, so after much discussion and inquiry we have concluded that the first suicide was a 21-year-old Baloch poet Razzaq Dedag who started writing poetry around 1987 to 1989. In the two years in which Razzaq Dedag established his foothold in Balochi literature, it was in later years that he ended his life with his own hands, but why? What were the reasons this person took his life? Through this research, we have observed that Razak Didag had given an indication in his poetry that “One day the angel of death will call me, then I have to go to my next destination”, but it is a pity that no one understood that Razak Dedag will commit suicide. Interference with his ambitions and interests served as the primary driver behind Razak Dedag’s suicide. Immediately after the suicide of Razak Dedag, suicide cases in the nearby areas of his residence including Sanghani Sir Pathan Kahor continued to increase day by day and it has become a trend recently, a young boy Rajab, son of Asami, in Padrak, and Chakar Majeed, from Tump, ended their lives. Moreover, it is seen that most of the suicide cases are the youth, between 15 to 25 years of age.
Causes of suicide
According to our findings, some of the reasons for the increasing suicide cases in the district Kech are that persons who do not get the love they deserve from their peers or parents take drastic measures of ending their lives. This includes those who had to lose their lives due to disappointment in love and depression. Other reasons include poverty, chaos, exploitations in the name of security, lack of trust, as well as neglecting their own interest which leads people to get depressed and commit suicide, however, this unfortunate trend is increasing, which is a concern that people from all walks of life must think about. We must play our role to mitigate this alarming situation.
Our research continues. In addition, we will hold sessions at the University of Turbat or Atta Shad Degree College to inform people about suicide and those who are interested in joining us in our research may get in touch with us.
