With 175,000 residents, Hub is the fourth largest city and the only industrial zone in Balochistan. About 200 groups of companies operate in Hub ethically bound to create opportunities, and facilitate the locals. In contrast, the aforementioned city lacks several rights for its inhabitants, including education and health care, which must be addressed and provided.
This forsaken city connects Sindh and Balochistan. Sindh provides workers to these over 200 industries in violation of the rights of indigenous people as they do not derive any benefit from these industries. Furthermore, this tehsil of the district Lasbela remains ignored despite having two MNAs and an MPA.
In addition to lacking other fundamental rights and amenities, students in Hub, Balochistan do not have access to a functional library. In this relation, the Baloch Students Action Committee has organized a public awareness campaign titled “Hub Needs Library Movement” to demand the establishment of a public library because students need an adequate study space. According to its population, it must have had 35 or more well-equipped libraries, and as a statutory service there should be one library for every 5,000 people.
Local stakeholders mutter that the land designated for the Hub public library year ago was taken over by the local government but none is aware of the location of the assigned land or a constructed library. In response to increased student demand and pressure, the local government has converted its storage room into a study hall in a colony where residents are reluctant to allow students to study. This has compelled the students to take to the streets and press clubs to demand that the relevant authorities construct a public library for Hub city. The students and protesters are demanding that a well-equipped digital library be constructed in Hub city.
