Pakistan is among the most populous countries in the world. This has given rise to a multidimensional problem in the country. The rapidly growing population has created an obstacle in the way of the country’s economic progress. It has become difficult for successive governments to provide necessities of life to the majority of citizens. Safe drinking water is not available in many places, many people do not have sanitation facilities, a lot of children are not provided with primary education and the illiteracy rate is very high among the adults.
There is a shortfall in educational institutions and classrooms in government schools are overcrowded. Due to the high growth rate of the population, the health care facilities have become inadequate. The increase in population means an increase in crime rates. When people do not get jobs they get frustrated and the crime rate increases. The authorities must act to halt the rapid increase in population. They can disseminate awareness through electronic and print media to mitigate this serious problem.
