Students are the backbone of a nation. They can lead a country towards development as they are the future leaders, scientists, doctors and engineers.
But sadly, in Balochistan, students are not being treated as they should be. They are either branded miscreants and anti-development for voicing their dissent against government policies they believe are harmful to them and their society. Instead of facilitating them, the state authorities are putting their lives in danger.
The Baloch students in particular are deprived of their educational rights. As the majority of Baloch are not financially well off, they have to take a hard journey to finance the education of their children. At times, these families compromise on their living standards with the hope that their child will get an education and become a support for the family. Baloch mothers sew clothes to collect money to support the education of their children but all hopes of these families are shattered as their children who as educated citizens of the country raise their voices against injustices, and become victims of enforced disappearance.
Considering how an entire family and communities are affected by this draconian practice of enforced disappearance, the state authorities should end this practice and instead listen to the concerns of the students, address their concerns not punish them for speaking up about what they believe is right.
