Iran:
According to human rights activists, authorities in Iran hanged at least nine inmates within five days. Iranian activists reported that the government has executed at least 143 prisoners since the Persian new year on March 21.
However, this is not the actual number of the executed people because more than 70 percent of death penalties have been implemented in secret, according to the Human Rights Activists News Agency.
Based on an intelligence officer’s demand, authorities in Iran hanged Adham Maksani at Iranshahr Prison in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchistan at dawn on Saturday, September 11.
The human rights campaign of Baluch activists reported that Mr. Maksani was hanged at the prison after enduring ten years of prison. According to the report, following the manslaughter of his wife, he referred to a police station on the same day, preventing a family dispute.
In 2012, a court diagnosed the case as manslaughter, ruling Mr. Maksani to life imprisonment. However, authorities suddenly hanged him. A source familiar with the case said that one of the victim’s relatives is an intelligence agent who pressured the court to resume the case and sentence Mr. Maksani to death.
