London: 20 September 2021
In a widely attended gathering in London, on Sunday, 19th of September, eminent academics, politicians, and human rights defenders from Baloch, Sindhis, and other communities in the UK paid rich tribute to the legendary figure of the Baloch national struggle, Sardar Attaullah Mengal.
In a commemoration reference organized by the Sindhi Baloch Forum (SBF) in London, speakers highlighted various aspects of the political and nationalistic struggle of late Sardar Mengal.
Moderated by BHRC information secretary Qambar Malik, the proceedings of the commemoration reference began with the playing of a short video based on clips of Sardar Mengal’s speeches and interviews and with the observation of one-minute silence in his honor.
While honoring his lifelong struggle for the dignity and sovereignty of the Baloch people, speakers were unanimous that Sardar Mengal was a man who had devoted his life to the service of his people and the fight for a future where the Baloch people can live with dignity and with their cherished socio-cultural values. They opined that joining of the Baloch national struggle by Sardar Mengal brought hope and inspiration among the Baloch political activists after the dark period of fear, doubt, and humiliation suffered by the Baloch nation after Balochistan was annexed by Pakistan in 1948. Speakers believed that the death of the noblest of the Baloch leaders in contemporary history is a blow for the Baloch national cause but expressed their hope that this generation of the Baloch will carry his torch of struggle to its ultimate destination.
Prominent among the speakers were Dr. Naseer Dashti (Convenor Sindhi Baloch Forum), Waja Akbar Barakzai (Poet and veteran nationalist), Sushil Pandit (Kashmiri human rights defender), Ruby Hoq (General Secretary of Forum for Secular Bangladesh and Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee), Faheem Baloch (member of Baloch National Movement-BNM), Shahjahan Baloch (member of Balochistan National Party-BNP), Mir Noordin Mengal (Grandson of Sardar Mengal), Dr. Ayesha Siddiqa (School of Oriental and African Studies) and Dr. Lakhumal Luhana (General Secretary World Sindhi Congress).
