The CSTO’s emergency talks on Afghanistan were chaired by Emomali Rahmon, Tajikistan’s president, and attended by the leaders of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan – all former Soviet republics.
“We are keeping a close eye on this situation, actively cooperating with our allies in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO),” said Putin.
Putin along with the other central Asian leaders expressed concerns over the influx of refugees into their countries after fleeing the Taliban regime, over fears that Islamic State fighters and other fundamentalists, as well as religious extremists, could infiltrate into the countries in the guise of refugees.
