WASHINGTON, DC:
The Baloch American Congress (BAC) has expressed outrage over Iran’s execution of Javid Dehghan at a prison in Zahedan and has condemned the killing of nearly two dozen Baloch prisoners, including political activists, just in recent weeks. “Javid Dehghan was held for more than five years in jail, including solitary confinement, brutally tortured and did not have recourse to a fair trial before his hanging,” Dr. Tara Chand Baloch, president of the BAC, said in a statement Saturday, regretting that Teheran carried out the killing despite an appeal from the UN.
The massive scale and speed with which Iran executes Baloch prisoners, along with people from other minorities like Arabs and Kurds, shows not only that Ayatollah rulers of Iran have no concept of human rights but they are in fact anti-human.
Dr Tara Chand said the international community must hold Iran accountable for its violation of basic human rights to save the lives of the hapless Baloch and members of other ethnic minorities. The BAC president urged the US government not to let up the pressure on Iran. “Iran deserves to remain under international sanctions as long as the Ayatollahs there continue to show utter disregard for basic human rights and continue to flout the Geneva conventions,” the BAC president said.
In addition to executing ethnic minorities at lightning speed, Iran does not spare even child offenders. According to the UN, despite repeated calls of the world body to Iran to end the execution of child offenders, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights says that at least 80 remain on death row. Iran ranks second in the world for executions, while China is number one.
